I am a writer/actor named Jon Reiss living in Brooklyn, New York. This is the product of a well informed decision that simply having a MySpace blog is lame, and furthermore that my space itself, is pretty lame. There are a few subjects I will return to time and time again on this blog. They will be; Brooklyn (specifically Bushwick, Williamsburg), Punk Rock (this to me includes "indie Rock" and any music that is good), Generation Why (I will be doing alot of talking about my generation and "The New Sincerity and things of that nature, Books, Moveis, Television (and how good it is these days), Sex, the Internet and maybe some pop culture. What I am wondering now is how do i get people to read it? Well to start things off.
I saw Knocked Up this weekend. It was perhaps the best comedy to come out after the year 2000. I mean, I laughed in a way that I only laughed when drunken and stoned in conversation with the funniest and closest of freinds. It was sincerely fucking hystetical and you know, touching and all that Garb. The first scene which beings with ODB's Shimy shimmy (anyone get the joke there? Its a movie about getting preagnant, remember?) showed this group of young jewish ex cannadians, boxing eachother with thier boxing gloves aflame! and jousting American Gladiators style over a half full swimming pool. It was there that I knew that I was getting my ten bucks worth, and the laughs just never stopped. Also during the movie was a premeir for the new film from the members of The State, "The Ten" which looks like it might be hysterical.
Also, I just read the new Vice Book, Dear Diary, which I found to be sweet and conceptually awesome. Not to mention, this girls life is eerily simillar to my own, we have had simillar ups and downs let's say. Unless you know me at this point, which I assume you dont, assuming there is a "you" you have yet to know that I have been in my fare share of life threatning trouble, but I dont mind, i find those of us with anything interesting in our noggins have been in a bit of trouble here and there. I also bought the other new Vice book Skinema. To be honest, Skinema was always one of the few parts of Vice that I would skip over, however, I am finding the book very interesting. This guy has some great stories and actually does have a style. My question so far is whether or not there is anything redeeming about the guy.
Finally, I recently did an interview about Second Life froa marketting company and they sent me this thing asking me to provide them information on youth culture. So I did this draft and if they like it they're gonna put me on the payroll. What does that mean? I am offically selling out my culture for money. What do you want? I live in New York City. Also I just bought some new clothes, which include a pair of Nike's. It is the second pair i've bought since my youth when I learned that Nike is an evil corporation that works young children in Burma to death. Part of growing up is realizing that all shoe companies do that so either cowboy up and dont wear shoes, or stop acting all high and fucking mighty. (this is me talking to my child self.) Also, I was recently in a commerical for the MTV movie awards. It is a comerical for Yahoo where you can get your own movie spoofs in the awards, it's me rocking out in a living room. If anyone see's it let me know. Also, I plan on taking classes this summer at Upright Citizens brigade. I have yet to decide whether to take improv or sketch comedy. Anyone who has taken classes at UCB, throw me your two cents. Untill next time, this is Jon Reiss telling you not to smother proverbial meatloaf with too much dumb sauce.
Peace
Reiss
